ABOUT BIRDIE'S
Birdie’s Bakery is a small boutique bakery in Salt Lake City started in 2015 by a newly single mom who was searching for a way to support her family. Although Birdie (her childhood nickname) makes a perfect salted Belgian chocolate brownie, cream scones, and a French apple tart, her signature dessert is her incomparable almond buttercream sugar cookies. All of Birdie’s baked items contain no added sodium, preservatives or trace of peanuts and she intends that they bring as much happiness to the giver as the receiver. Made in small batches daily using locally sourced ingredients, Birdie’s desserts are as unforgettable as they are delicious. 
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
After the birth of her third child and going through an unexpected divorce, Birdie came to me as a friend needing help getting off the ground as a small business owner. Her taste and style focuses on authentic natural baking practices. Having studied extensively in France and serving as a volunteer missionary in Belgium, Birdie was looking for a delicate way to incorporate her passion for baking and her joy in motherhood into Birdie's Bakery SLC. With her three little birds in tow she took the leap of faith and soared. 
From business consulting and branding her business, we worked on curating a look that matched the impossible to replicate product she offered. Branding consisted not just of creating an identity for print and digital assets, but in curating a presence on social media, carrying that color scheme into her actual product, as well as packaging and in every event she attended.

SMALL BUSINESS • OPTIMIZING USER FLOWS & PROCESSES
In understanding Birdie's business needs to maximize her time baking, caring for small children and to minimize her time managing her business, as part of her brand strategy we wanted to create a seamless intake and invoicing funnel not only to help with meeting order quotas but also to help her better manage her business while being a full time single parent to her three little birds.
 
In creating user personas and understanding the necessary userflows and actions we wanted the customer to take when going through a conversion funnel we decided to implement an API integration from Freshbooks, her invoicing software, directly into her website contact form via WordPress. With the API connection buyers could complete an order form and upon submission the details of inventory, quantity and order information would self populate into a new estimate via Freshbooks that Birdie could then update quantity and send back within the same working day. This not only freed up more time by releasing her from taking phone and email orders but it streamlined her productivity by automating population of each submitted  invoice with all pertinent order details, creating unprecedented conversions and with auto-payment reminders setup, she didn't have to follow up with clients manually to request payment. 
With Birdie's print collateral I designed small postcard sized set of promotional A2 cards, that could be rotated seasonally with images on the back and she could either use the front as a way to personally thank her customers, with a note, or edit an editable PDF to promote the various events she hosted, promote holiday pop-up shops with local businesses or hand out at volunteer events and shops willing to promote her baked goods.
